The data

Ask for it the way you'd say it

Type what you want to know, like a stock price or tomorrow's weather. The answer shows up on that line with its units, and every line below can use it right away.

Stocks

Type a cash tag like $AAPL and it turns into the share price. Multiply it by what you own, compare two companies, or see what your position is worth after a 10% drop. Markets outside the US work too: add the exchange after a dot, like $VOD.XLON for Vodafone in London.

1shares = 4040
2$AAPLlive price
3$VOD.XLONVodafone, London
4shares * $AAPLlive value
5line4 * 90%after a 10% drop
Apple Weather

Weather

Forecasts, temperature, humidity, sunrise and sunset for any place, or for a point a set distance from one. Sunrise and sunset come back as clock times, so other lines can add to them.

1weather Detroit tomorrowforecast
2humidity in Tokyo%
3sunset in Detroitclock time
4line3 - 45 minclock time
5weather 100 miles north of Detroitforecast
U.S. Energy Information Administration

Energy

Electricity and fuel prices by state and region. Work out what a space heater costs to run, what a road trip will cost in fuel, or what a year of charging an electric car adds up to.

1electricity price Michigan¢/kWh
2heater = 1.5 kW * 6 h * 30270 kWh
3heater * line1$ per month
4gasoline price Midwest$/gal

Food and nutrition

Calories and nutrients for thousands of foods, in whatever amount and unit you write. Scale a recipe, compare two meals, or plan a week of protein.

3fiber in 1 cup oatsg
4line1 / line2 * 100g per 100 kcal
Bureau of Labor Statistics

Labor and prices

Inflation, wages and employment. Turn an old price into today's dollars, check whether a raise kept up with inflation, or look up unemployment for a state.

1inflation 2015 to 2025%
2$50,000 in 2015 dollars to 2025$
3raise = 3.5%3.5%

A portfolio that keeps itself up to date

Each holding is one line: shares times a cash tag. The total and the chart follow the prices on their own. Drag the market move to see what a bad week or a good one does to the total.

How it works

Live values behave like any other number

1

Write a line

Ask for a price, a forecast or a statistic. The value comes back with its units, and you can drag, plot and convert it like the rest of your sheet.

2

It stays fresh

Values refresh when you open a sheet, or on a schedule you choose. Each source shows when it was fetched. If a source does not answer, the previous value stays, with a warning.

Live dataUpdated 9:41 AM
3

Freeze a snapshot

Freeze a sheet to keep its values exactly as they were, so a budget or a report gives the same answer next month as it does today.

Questions

Is Dot Decimal free without Pro?

Yes. Every math feature is free on Mac, iPad and iPhone: units, plots, calculus, matrices, sliders and everything else. Pro only adds the live data sources on this page.

How current are stock prices?

US prices are up to 15 minutes behind during trading. Other markets show the last close, in the stock's own currency.

What happens if a source doesn't answer?

The value from the last successful refresh stays in your sheet, marked with a warning, and the rest of the sheet keeps working.

How do I cancel?

Pro is an App Store subscription, so you manage or cancel it in your Apple account's subscription settings.
